THE HISTORY OF PILATES

Pilates, originally known as “Contrology”, was conceptualized by Joseph Pilates. In 1926 he and his wife Clara rented a studio on 8th Avenue in New York City and started teaching “Contrology”.  Joseph Pilates designed equipment and exercises that focused on the development of a person’s breathing, concentration, control, centering, precision; rhythm/flow, relaxation, balanced muscle development, and whole-body movement. Pilates performed through personalized instruction will help you acquire a strong, healthy body that is well connected to your mind.
